General Assembly Barcelona 2016
From 12th to 16th September 2016, the 47th Congress of the International Academy of Ceramics, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain, is conceived as a meeting place for discussion and study for artists and scholars from around the world, an event that will be complemented by visits to the ceramic heritage of the city and Catalonia, as well as cultural and entertainment events coinciding with the celebration of the General Assembly of the Academy.
The central theme of the Congress Barcelona 2016 will be Ceramics in Architecture and Public Spaces, a topic of great relevance that remains relatively unstudied and discussed. There are strong reasons for the choice of this theme for this Congress. Barcelona and Catalonia have, in their rich histories, produced magnificent architectural works in which ceramics play a key role, particularly during Modernism, with buildings by Antoni Gaudí, Lluís Domènech i Montaner and Josep Puig i Cadafalch, as well as the presence of sculpture and other ceramic works by artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Eduardo Chillida and Joan Miró.
