Xavier Toubes




Artist A Coruña, Spain, Xavier Toubes has lived and worked for long periods of time in Spain, England, Netherlands and the US. Working in finances, potteries, cultural institutions, factories and as a professor at universities, he has navigated through different cultural perspectives, materials, ways of working, economics, politics, and expectations. International bank in Spain and London. Attended Goldsmiths, University of London. Worked at Winchcombe Pottery, Gloucestershire, UK. A year residency at Cerámicas de Sargadelos, Spain. Attended the New York State College of Ceramics. Professor in the Art Department at the University of North Carolina (US) at Chapel Hill 1983-91. In 1989 became involved in the creation of the European Ceramics Work Centre in
’s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands where he was the Artistic Director from the opening in 1991 until 1999 when he started teaching at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Professor Emeritus currently).
He has exhibited frequently in Europe, USA and Asia and lectured in numerous Universities and international forums.
