RESUME

"In Perspective", Ceramic Wall Piece
h:45, w:30, d:7 cm each
Prototype handbuilt form soft clay slabs, multiples slip cast, with brushed Lithium glaze and colours, fired in an electric kiln at 1035°C.

Photographer: Alfred Petri

"Originally trained in fine arts I see my work as 3 dimensional painting, working with soft clay slabs, marked and pierced, carefully pushed and coaxed into undulating forms, finally tailored into precise sculptural objects and wall panels.

I love the vibrancy of ceramic colour, the sensuality and tactility of the material and the way clay reacts to every movement of my hand. Each piece, hand painted with brushed glaze and colour is different, offering a unique blend between sculpture and painting.

My inspiration comes from the Austrian landscape, although my work has become more abstract over the years, dealing with form, volume, line and colour. I aim to achieve the perfect balance between soft and hard, the organic and the architectural, the natural and the abstract, spontaneity and precision, chance and control.

Modular wall panels are my most recent development.  I see them in context, as site-specific applications from small to large scale both in interior and exterior settings."

Regina Heinz is an award-winning ceramicist, best known for the "pillow" forms she creates as individual abstract sculptures or as part of a wall panel series.

Inspired by nature and hand built from soft slabs of clay, her pieces display an organic and sensual quality but are essentially abstract - dealing with form, volume, line and colour. Precisely constructed forms echo geometric designs and contrast with the soft clay surfaces.

Regina Heinz works both on private and public commissions. Her work is held in museum collections around the world. She is a Crafts Council Selected Member, a Fellow of the British Craft Potters Association and a member of the Interational Academy of Ceramics.
