Artist’s statement
My vessels are created on the wheel. I texture and polish the surface with different tools. I also change the composition of the different kinds of clays I use for my work. The firing takes about two days in an especially developed kiln. The blackness is caused by reduction material of sawdust and paper. The fire goes up to a temperature of about 1000 degrees Celsius, so the elaborated surface structure is being kept and the body has got nice useful properties. After the firing I put the ceramics into a tank filled with beeswax. The temperature of the wax varies between 150 to 170 degrees Celsius. It takes several hours until all capillaries are soaked. After the procedure the tone changes and the vessels are leakproof.
My ceramics are supposed to be a unity in colour, form and structure; whereas none of these design elements may dominate the other. The works have got to hold tension, however may not be obtrusive. It should still be possible to discover the finer points after a long time, even one claimed to know the piece.
