Main theme of my work is questioning about one`s course of life, which is one of the biggest agony during the lifetime. Human beings always think about his course of life, such as life as an artist, life as a father, and life as a member of society, and try to find answer. I think this is common point to everyone, and I`m trying to share my opinion, communicating with others through my work to find the answer about what is ideal life.
I expressed about realizing ideal by harmonizing three different materials: clay, which is the key material, metal and glass. A fork in the work means `taking`. It doesn`t mean taking and consuming food, but it means making decision in one`s career. Also, showy glasses attached to the fork means temptation.
I work using raku firing.
In Europe or the US, the technique has been developed since 1960s, but in Korea, since its dissemination in 1980s, it has not been vitalized yet. In fact, just some of the universities consider it as one of the firing techniques, and only a few artists use it. I think highly of my work even though raku is not very common in Korea. I am trying my best at invigorating raku through exhibitions and workshops. At my solo exhibition from November 20th, 2010 to December 19th, I introduced new technique, which is removing enamel after firing, and I received positive response.
