Nelson Lim Sang Choon

Nelson Lim is an established ceramist whose practice explores the intersection between traditional craftsmanship and mechanisation. With an MFA from National Tainan University of the Arts in Taiwan, Lim has developed a distinctive artistic language that merges ancient ceramic techniques with industrial materials, such as metal wire, to examine contemporary questions of technology, labour, and artistic authorship.
Lim’s work has been widely exhibited in Singapore and internationally, reflecting his deep engagement with materiality and cultural heritage. His recent project, Dilemma Relationship: Exploring the Intersection of Ancient and Industrial Materials, delves into the tensions between handcraft and automation, addressing the evolving role of artificial intelligence in art-making.
Beyond his studio practice, Lim is an adjunct lecturer at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). He is also a dedicated educator and advocate for special needs art education, contributing over 20 years of expertise through Explorer Ark, a company specializing in inclusive arts programs.
Lim’s contributions to the field have been recognized through accolades such as the Gyeonggi Ceramics Award 2024, and his commitment to fostering artistic dialogue has led him to conduct workshops and residencies abroad, including in Korea and China. As he continues to push the boundaries of ceramic art, Lim remains committed to exploring the evolving relationships between materiality, craftsmanship, and artificial intelligence.
