Artistic Statement

The sea has always been an essential part of my life and my work. I grew up in Quebradillas, a coastal town in Puerto Rico where cliffs and the beach of Guajataca shaped my imagination. As a child, I would wander along those cliffs and the shoreline, captivated by the relentless energy of the waves.

My father, who in his youth worked in the fishing business, shared with me that deep connection to the ocean. Sundays were family days: my sister and I would go snorkeling with my father, and my mother would join us as well. Each visit was an intimate encounter with nature and the sea’s infinite possibilities. Over time, the ocean became my place of meditation, a sanctuary where the force and beauty of the water always reminded me of what is essential.

These sculptures emerge from that emotional bond with the sea. They are the result of months of contemplation: countless hours watching the waves, analyzing photos and videos, and striving to translate that energy into tangible forms. Clay, with its malleability and resilience, allows me to capture the undulating movement of the waves and their powerful dance.

Through these twisted, textured forms, I seek not only to represent the sea but also to share the sense of freedom and renewal it has always offered me. Every curve and every crack in these pieces evokes that constant heartbeat of the ocean and my desire to keep that ancestral connection with the waves alive.
