Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts

Established in April 2005 as the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts under Fudan University, the institution was restructured and officially renamed Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts (SIVA) in April 2013, transitioning into an independent private undergraduate university. Anchored by a core commitment to creativity, SIVA seamlessly integrates art and technology education, closely aligning its academic programs with the evolving demands of the cultural industry and broader societal needs to deliver exceptional educational experiences.
As a cornerstone discipline at SIVA, the Ceramics major was designated as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program in 2019. Dedicated to the preservation and advancement of ceramic art, the program has assembled a distinguished faculty, including renowned guest professors from around the globe. Supported by comprehensive studio spaces and state-of-the-art facilities, the program has nurtured nearly 500 undergraduate students over the past two decades. Furthermore, SIVA has cultivated extensive practical expertise and notable achievements in international artistic exchange. A testament to this global engagement is the Shanghai International Ceramics Arts Festival, hosted biennially by the university since 2015, which has firmly established itself as a premier international event in the field of ceramic arts.
