About Martin
Hello, my name is Martin Harman. I am a British artist based in the UK.
I create original, one-off, dreamlike abstract ceramic sculpture and 2D artwork.

Why do I create art?
Creating art allows me to take a step back from the normality of society. It provides me opportunities to explore new possibilities, to keep learning about myself and the world. Making art is what it means to be human.

Challenges in my career
Experiencing this life as a creator I would sometimes find people doubting me and sometimes I doubt myself. I get the impression that sometimes people/society want to keep people in their place and do not want to elevate them to their potential.

I also experienced family members passing away. This got me thinking about my experience of reality and what happens when we die. It made me realise life is fragile and short and that I should make the most out of this life. It got me asking questions.

How has life changed for the better?
Art provides me new opportunities to explore my potential, to not limit myself or be confined by the norms of society. Art gives me the opportunity to learn new skills. It has opened doors for me to travel to different countries to attend residencies, symposiums, meet new people, and show my art in exhibitions around the world.

What inspires me? What is my purpose?
The Historic English Heritage monument Stonehenge and stone circles in the UK inspires the creation of my artwork.

To this day its purpose and meaning still remains in question. It forces myself to be curious, to learn anew and reflect upon my existence.

It invites me to think about, belief, spirituality, what happens when we die, space, time, what is real, imagination, society, my experience of life, human potential and the desire to ask questions about the world and universe I am living in.

I do not intend to create artworks that look like stone circles in any way. I use this as a foundation to generate ideas to inform the creation of artwork to evoke new meaning to you, the viewer. My art could be seen as an escapism from reality, however there can also be elements recognisable or symbolic to the human experience.

My purpose is to create art that invites you to be immersed by curiosity, human potential and new experiences.

Life is full of questions.
