Focusing on the concept of memory and oblivion as active societal methods, rather than passive or involuntary experience, I reproduce and obscure imagery and objects from the past to reflect the complexity of mestizo existence. As a queer Latinx migrant and exile, I am deeply concerned with the representation of cultural heritage from my own point of view and this has led me to revisit suppressed archeological and historical material in the context of my family and region, and address contemporary critical issues that intersect identity and survival in Latin America and the Latinx communities. Ceramic art has been a way for me to directly connect to the earth and keep me grounded and local while tapping into a medium that is universal and timeless.
