Peter Beard
My work has always been inventive and I work in an intuitive way, constantly drawing, sketching and experimenting with new forms and processes. My forms are strong and simple but have complex surfaces which draw the viewer to look more closely. Each piece works as a whole, a union of form and pattern.
I use meticulous processes of layering glaze, along with painting patterns with wax. The wax acts as a resist, burning off during the firing process. Other work involves layering coloured clays which, after glazing, are ground back to reveal complex patterns and tactile surfaces.
Peter is a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain. Exhibits regularly internationally and his work is represented in museums and collections worldwide and he is the winner of various ceramic awards. Examples of his work appear in numerous reference books.
