Hernan Dario Vargas

Hernán Vargas is a musician, ceramist, and creator of sound sculptures and ceramic instruments. His career has developed at the intersection of visual arts and music, through a continuous exploration of the sonic and possibilities of clay as both an ancestral and contemporary material.

For more than two decades, Vargas has investigated clay not only as a plastic medium but also as a resonant body capable of generating unique sound worlds. His work includes musical instruments, interactive sound sculptures, and clay ensembles presented in concerts, festivals, and artistic residencies across Latin America and Europe.

He is the founder and director of Suena Barro, an interdisciplinary project that promotes the creation of ceramic orchestras, bringing together music, craftsmanship, and pedagogy. Through this initiative, Vargas has conducted workshops on instrument building and collective composition in universities, art schools, and cultural centers, fostering dialogue between artisanal traditions, technological innovation, and community practices.

His work has been recognized for its ability to build bridges between disciplines and cultures, offering an integrative vision in which clay becomes a universal language. His sound sculptures stand out for their formal and acoustic research, as well as their pedagogical and social dimension, oriented toward the creation of collective artistic experiences.

Currently, he is preparing an international tour in 2026 with the Suena Barro ensemble, which will travel through various European cities, strengthening collaboration networks between musicians, ceramists, cultural institutions, and local communities. His proposal contributes to the growing field of sound arts, expanding into hybrid territories where material research, artistic creation, and community participation converge in a single creative gesture.
