Inspiration and work
Friendly and kind
I work with jars. In clay, I build vase forms using a craft that has followed people for millennia and that has contributed to the development of our society and civilization. Coiling and pitching are both basic techniques used for shaping and forming clay. My jars are built by hand with and with simple tools. I try to work intuitively and shape the clay in a way where the softness and malleability in the material are recognizable. I’m not looking for the predictable, the symmetrical or the perfectionist. I want to share a moment of something beautiful, something friendly, but also visible and surprising. The vessel is an object that has followed man throughout history as a practical and functional object. At the same time the jar has been a ritual, mythical and symbolic object. From Sarepta’s jar flowed misery, but also hope. My jars relate to nature and history. They are recognizable and easy to understand. They can be experienced as human and familial. They belong in the forest and in the sea, where it’s hot and where it´s cold. They exist in the community, but also in the private sphere. In my works, I examine the jar’s visual qualities and I try to give each one its own story and message. I try to be friendly and kind.
