Judith Schwartz

My professional life has been spent teaching, writing, curating, and administering a craft program at New York University. I have always kept my studio activities alive, navigating the converging worlds of craft, art, design, and fashion while initiating a dialogue between tradition, technology, creative recycling, innovative materials, processes and techniques. Whether creating sculptural objects in clay, subversive jewelry using crochet, zippers, or scouring pads , hand felted hats or laboriously intensive seed beaded bracelets, I always manage to create a sense of fun, irony, irreverence, and attitude in my work. Now, as Emeritus professor, I am President and Founder of the Museum of Ceramic Art/New York which is home to Ceramic World Destinations-a world map for everything you might possibly want to see, learn about, visit and enjoy within our international ceramic community.
