Piotr Nowak works thematically with conceptual thoughts around infinity as an abstract size, spatial investigations and human ability to perception through artworks volume, texture and recognition factor. With his art he is keen to produce the feeling of being in limbo, an intermediate state between recognition and wonder, between security and uncertainty. He wants to ask questions about the relationship between sensory perception and capacity for imagination, illusion, dreams and changed mind states, and investigates phenomena such as gravity, balance, contrast and volume.
Nowak’s main medium has long been concentrated around exploration in ceramics where he works with challenging processes that require a sharp precision in the craft to model, burn and glaze the work. He has been interested in pushing his material to the fullest, often making large sculptures that exceed a human scale. In recent years, Nowak has also started working in media such as textile, video, and print.
