Prix de l’AIC – Exposition thématique des membres 2018

L’Exposition Thématique des Nembres de l’AIC (2018) a eu lieu à l’occasion du 48ème Congrès de l’AIC à New Taipei City et reflétait le thème du Congrès: « Nouvel Orientalia: Fonctionnalité, Spiritualité, Diversité ». 
Afin de rendre hommage aux travaux des Membres de l’Académie, le comité exécutif de l’AIC a créé 4 prix, qui ont été remis lors d’une cérémonie au Yingge Ceramics Museum à New Taipei City, le 30 septembre 2018.

Le jury était composé de Jacques Kaufmann, Torbjørn Kvasbø, Judith Schwartz et Madhvi Subrahmanian.



Prix – New Orientalia

Ce prix a été décerné à Agnes Husz pour son œuvre intitulée Ripples, 2018.

Agnes Husz est membre de l’AIC depuis 2013. De nationalité hongroise, elle vit au Japon depuis 1993.

« The ritual is in this work. Enjoying the process of rolling the clay strips one by one without thinking, just letting myself be one with the work and being part of the Universe. The work is finished, but not complete. It develops further in accordance with the immediate surroundings and will always reveal something new. Fill it with water, may be nothing will happen. Mute. But if anything moves or someone passes by, the work is aroused and will answer with ripples. »

Prix Spiritualité

Ce prix a été remis à Shida Kuo pour son œuvre Untitled N°18-01, 2017.

Shida Kuo est membre de l’AIC depuis 2003. Originaire de Taipei, il vit aux États-Unis.

« I am curious about how people of different origins and backgrounds can respond to forms and materials in an identical way. Shared experiences of emotional and spiritual impacts created by forms and materials are articulated by our bodies even before they can be understood by our minds. I try to demonstrate this creative process through my work. I use primarily ceramic and wood for my works because human beings have used these two materials for thousands of years regardless of cultural or racial differences. They are so close to us in many ways and become the best material for me to convey my ideas. »

Prix Fonctionnalité

Ce prix a été remis à Jin Zhenhua pour son œuvre intitulée Orientation, 2017. 

De nationalité chinoise, Jin Zhenhua est membre de l’AIC depuis 2013.

« In this materialistic society, we encounter many choices of varying and uncontrollable orientation which intertwined with each other with or without order. Contacting with clay is the simplest and most heartfelt way of communication. I formed the curvature of the slab through my hand’s contact with clay to convey an uncertain orientation. It is like a piece of paper being folded repeatedly in search of possibilities in extension of different orientations, toward unique, unbroken continuities. Meanwhile, no variation escapes this vessel. »

Prix Diversité

Ce prix a été remis à Nick Geankoplis pour son œuvre intitulée Saccharin Series | For as little as, 2017. 

De nationalité américaine, Nick Geankoplis est devenu membre de l’AIC en 2017.

« In this body of work entitled Saccharin, I have taken Chinese factory produced decals for industrially made ceramic tableware and collaged them with hobby craft decals from America and Europe on large porcelain tiles produced in Jingdezhen for traditional over glaze ceramic painting. The imagery is collaged on a seemingly viscus surface on top of bright vibrant plastic like colors. The scenes distort, bend and blend around the topography of the drips alluding to cultural hybridity and contemporary commercialization of heritage. »
