Beatrijs van Rheeden
Beatrijs van Rheeden
After finishing the ABK Minerva in 1989 she continued her studies for a Master in Ceramics in Hungary finishing in 1991. Since then she has been active as a ceramic sculptor in the Netherlands.
The Porcelain work by Beatrijs van Rheeden is clearly grounded in a twentieth century dutch tradition of abstract form, clear lines and a minimalist attitude.
Her work process is intuitive, and her fascination for patterns and structures is enduring.
In her recent work she has started to combine crochet work with her porcelain.
This combination allows her a new playfullness and freedom in form.
Her pieces are abstract in the sense that they do not refer to anything other than themselves.
In 2009 she won the Westerwald Prize in sculptural ceramics in Hoehr-Grenzhausen and in 2017 the Neue Keramik Prize in Oldenburg, resulting in a solo exhibition in the Landesmuseum, Oldenburg in 2018.
In 2019 she was selected to participate in an exhibition in the Korean Ceramic Biennale. The Exhibition took place in 2020 in the Icheon Ceramics Museum, unfortunately the program around the exhibition was canceled due to the pandemic.
