Born in Shanghai and a resident of California for the past three decades. I have developed my career alongside my colleagues around the world ceramic community over the past decades. I have been active as a student, artist, educator, writer, juror, and curator in the ceramic art field. Along with teaching as a guest professor at several universities in China, I have also presented lectures in the US, China, Japan, Korea, Turkey, and several European countries. I have gotten involved with many seminars and curated exhibitions for international exchange programs since the late 1990’s.
Between 2014-2020, I was a council member of IAC (the International Academy of Ceramics, www.AIC-IAC.org) as the representative of China. In July 2015, as a representative of IAC, I participated in the Fifth International Forum of NGOs Partnership with UNESCO in Beijing with the theme of “International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022)”. Inspired by the cross-cultural spirit of the forum and the concept of “world citizenship”, a mission formed in my heart – to travel all over the world, exploring, learning, and promoting the diverse cultures of many nations and peoples throughout the ceramic art field.
My sixth book An Overview of World Ceramic Cultural Heritage is based on my travels in over 70 countries, as well as the generous support I have received from local artists, professors, museum curators, and more. The Chinese edition of the book was published in August 2023, and the English edition might be done in 2025. I deeply cherish the lifetime friendships I have forged with many of my colleagues, especially within the big family of this organization – IAC, this gives me the opportunity to broaden my global perspective and learn many new cultural vocabulary from different regions, for which I will always be grateful.
