Fleur Schell

Fleur Schell is an internationally recognised porcelain artist, illustrator, writer and presenter with a thirty-year practice grounded in clay. Born and raised on Ballardong Boodja near Goomalling in Western Australia, her work is deeply connected to place, ecology and cultural exchange. Her contemporary practice centres on “re-wilding the imagination,” inviting audiences to consider more interconnected and empathetic futures.

Fleur was the recipient of a $37,000 Minderoo Arts Grant to realise BioSPHERE BOODJA: Community, Culture and Wild Things Arts Festival (2025), as Creative Director. The festival fostered environmental awareness and cultural dialogue, encouraging a shift toward a more pleasurable and regenerative future for all species.

In 2002, after seven years of tertiary ceramics study, Fleur co-founded an international ceramic residency and clay centre on Walyalup Country in Fremantle, WA. The residency has since evolved, and in 2027 she will launch PORTAL – Place of Reeds Talinup Augusta Leeuwin – a regional collective thinking hub on Wadandi Boodja (Sea Country). PORTAL will bring together artists, scientists and cultural leaders to share knowledge and support conservation of one of the planet’s remaining biodiversity hotspots.

Fleur served on the steering committee for the 2025 National Ceramics Triennial (Perth). Her qualifications include a Diploma of Art and Design (WASAD), a Visual Arts Degree (Curtin University) and First-Class Honours (University of Tasmania).

She has received numerous awards and grants, including winning the National Teapot Award, the Klytie Plate People’s Choice Award, the Australian Environmental Art and Design Award, a $20,000 Australia Council grant, and the NSW Braille Institute Acquisitive Art Award.

Fleur has presented internationally in Canada, the USA, Indonesia and the UK, and widely across Australia. Her work appears in major publications and the WA SCASA curriculum, and is featured in Inspired by Light and Land by Dr Dorothy Erickson.
