In my work, I explore the relationship between shape, structure and colour within the formal space of the bowl. I explore the boundaries and try to feel how the inner and outer space of the bowl are related.
The bowls or containers are built of coloured kaolin clay ribbons. These ribbons are the building material, the structure of the object. The rhythmical repetitions and growth patterns can clearly be recognised in the translucent shapes. The approach is clear and straightforward.
Recently, I started investigating the abstract form of the ‘urinal’, as can be seen in the set of ‘Bourdalou’ vessels.
By sliding two bowls into one another, new lobed shapes are created.
