Brian Molanphy
Brian Molanphy’s attention to flux, endurance, transgression, & history informs his art, first accomplished through books & muck. As a bookmaker & baker, he learned to apprehend the world through containers. Coupled with the muck of paper pulp, printer’s ink, pastry cream, & bread dough, containment led to ceramics. In addition to national venues such as the New Mexico Museum of Art & the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, exhibitions include venues in Canada, Korea, China, & several European countries. Fellowships from the Fulbright Commission, the Camargo Foundation, & the Brown Foundation brought him to France where he continues to work periodically. He is Assistant Professor of Art at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in the Meadows School of the Arts. SMU grants & the Sam Taylor Fellowship have supported his research. Molanphy has lectured & participated in panel discussions for the Newberry Library, the Franco-American Commission for Educational & Cultural Exchange, the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), the Nasher Sculpture Center, & several universities. Public & private collections in the American Southwest, Korea, China, & Europe contain his ceramics.
